Reminding myself: Take the anger and turn it into something productive.
Even online, I try to stay away from angry people. People who are prone to shouting and shaking, people who spit poison darts like slimy toads and people who you suspect may carry an infection if you mingle too close. Something’s got to be buzzing around in there. I don’t belong.
I have my own form of anger myself, we all do, but anger doesn’t seem to be too helpful when it becomes your pasttime. Anger should be your work instead. If you’re going to be angry, at least do something with it. Write a parody of your life, knead some dough and make some bread, sharpen blades and hack away at a few tender carnations. Maybe these activities start off as silly or trivial, but anger is energy that can easily convert to charity, to a form of catharsis and empathy, to a signed document for a new business; instead of a laced liquor for your bigoted father.
Silly Alice, listen to yourself for once. Stop crying, and don’t just throw it all out into the ocean. But don’t set yourself on fire either.
The steam: Cheekily, tell the story of a baby that should’ve been aborted.
